What are the similarities and differences between x-ray and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) images??

Differences between X-ray and MRI images of head, knee, and chest are:

  1. An X-ray will give an image of bones present in these body parts. On the other hand, MRI can give an image of soft tissue also along with the bone.
  2. The MRI gives fewer details of bones in comparison to X-ray.
  3. MRI will give a 3D image of body parts; on the other hand, X-ray gives images only in one plane.
  4. X-ray can be used to detect pneumonia, lung cancer etc.; MRI cannot detect these abnormalities.

Because of these differences, the image obtained in MRI is much clear than X-ray.

Similarities between X-ray and MRI images are:

  1. Both give images; in other words, both can give structural information of chest, head, and knee.
