Research Summary on: The dignity of the nursing profession: A meta-synthesis of qualitative research By Sabatino et. al. (2014)

This research paper is a meta-synthesis of qualitative research based on the dignity of the nursing profession. It talks about various factors which constitute the notion of nursing profession dignity. The research study/meta-synthesis was performed using 15 original research articles, 70 abstracts, and 2595 articles, according to Noblit and Hare.

There are 7 phases in the method of meta-synthesis, which are as follows:

Formulation of research question: This is the most important part of the research topic. It gives the gist of the fact, that before ten years from now, much importance was not given to “dignity of nursing profession”. That is why the present research has been conducted.

Researching the existing literature. As stated above, literature study is performed from titles, abstracts, and full-length articles. It is important to note that research articles in which values of nursing have been bullied off are totally ignored.

Reading the articles that had been selected in Step 2. After this step, a rough initial draft was created. The creation of this draft was based on mutual discussion between all the researchers.

Finding out the relationship between studies/articles.

Translation of studies to each other: This involves the formulation of a unified final concept. This step is dependent on the above four steps as a whole.

In this step, the study group is set up as a whole.

To present this entire work in article format.

In the end, it was concluded that nurses are extremely devoted to providing patient care, safety, and dignity; provided their own dignity is given full respect. If their dignity is not given full respect, i.e. if the senior hospital staff and patients do not give respect to these health care providers, then the nurses become uncomfortable and are unable to provide requisite care and service to their patients.
